GREEN THUMBS PROJECT

Tuesday, 20 February 2024

In conjunction with Rotary Service Day on 23 February, the Rotary Club of Kuching Central held a symbolic handover ceremony for the Green Thumbs project. Together with the Interact Club of SMK Bandar Kuching No 1, Rotaract Club of Segi, we partnered District 3310 through the Crocodile Fund to build a greenhouse and furnish hydroponic sets to the Interact Club.

Our goals for this project are firstly, to give a hands-on and immersive experience to the students in alternative plantation methods. Secondly, we aimed to cultivate veggies for sale in our local community, with all proceeds funding free meals for students in need. With a spacious 20ft by 10ft greenhouse with 12 water channels, we’re ready to grow a whopping 300+ plants at once.

This initiative seamlessly aligns with Rotary’s areas of focus ‘Protecting the Environment’, ‘Supporting Education’ and ‘Growing Local Economies’. It also underscores our President’s commitment to sustainability. Together, we forge a path towards a more sustainable future. Let’s cultivate change together one seed at a time!
